National Society of High School Scholars
While not specifically for filmmakers, membership with NSHSS provides internships, scholarships, grants and other opportunities towards special interests. High school seniors may be qualified to apply, and membership lasts for a lifetime -- that means opportunities for undergrads and beyond! There is a one-time membership fee, but fee waivers are available.
Vision Maker Media - Public Media Content Fund
Vision Maker Media invites proposals for programs intended for Public Television that represent the experiences, values and cultures of American Indians and Alaska Natives.
ScreenCraft Short Film Production Fund
If your aspirations are solely to become a produced screenwriter, you can rely on ScreenCraft and BondIt to package the winning script with a talented director and in-house production resources with up to $30,000 in cash financing, judged on a case-by-case basis, depending on each project’s budget and needs as determined by our internal jury of industry professionals.
Black Public Media
The grant develops, produces, funds, and distributes media content about the African-American and global black experience. For forty years, it’s addressed the historical, contemporary, and systemic challenges that traditionally impede the development and distribution of black stories. It offers scholarships for emerging filmmakers as well as funding for projects.
Glassbreaker Films Catalyst Grant
Catalyst Grants are for early career filmmakers who are less than five years out of college or graduate school. This grant provides mentorship for young filmmakers.
BAFTA Rocliffe Writing For Children Call
Three winners of the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Initiative get: an Industry showcase at a central London venue with professional actors and directors, industry introductions, access to bespoke masterclasses and a tailored career planning and profile building session to provide support in navigating the industry.
Garrett Scott Documentary Development Grant
The grant funds first-time documentary directors for travel and accommodations to attend the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, where they get to present short excerpts from their works-in-progress and have access to films, discussions, and mentorship by experienced filmmakers.
World Cinema Fund Production Grant
Together with the Federal Foundation for Culture and in cooperation with the Goethe Institute, the Foreign Ministry and German producers, the World Cinema Fund works to develop and support cinema in regions with a developing film infrastructure, while fostering cultural diversity in German cinemas.
IDFA International Co-Production Support
The IDFA Bertha Fund supports international co-productions between documentary filmmakers in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Middle East and parts of Eastern Europe and European co-producers.
Women Make Movies Fiscal Sponsorship
Fiscal Sponsorship is designed for women filmmakers who are actively fundraising for their film project and need non-profit tax-exempt status. Your project must be a non-commercial film, VR, or multimedia project. The project director must be a woman.
MIPTV Cannes

Women In Film Finishing Fund
The Women In Film Finishing Fund gives grants to filmmakers working in both short and long formats, in all genres — narrative, documentary, animated and experimental.
Student Academy Awards
The Student Academy Awards (SAA) recognizes and honors student filmmakers who demonstrate excellence in the creation of motion pictures. By awarding these outstanding achievements, the Academy strives to support and inspire emerging filmmakers and to foster growth and education in the art and science of motion pictures.
Cinereach
This grant develops, produces, finances, and supports feature-length fiction, nonfiction, and hybrid films crafted for the big screen, offering grants and fellowships. They work with unknown and established filmmakers who may face creative, financial, or systemic obstacles to realizing ambitious visions.
Independent Television Service – Diversity Development Fund
Diversity Development Fund gives producers of color up to $25,000 in research and development funding so you can develop your documentary for public media. Pre-production nonfiction projects only. DDF Is NOT A GRANT. You will receive funding in the form of a development agreement that assigns ITVS certain rights over your project during the term of the contract.
NVTVF’s Independent Pilot Competition
Every year, NVTVF accepts independently-produced television pilots and web series from around the world for exposure, awards and development deals with Lionsgate, NatGeo, the Travel Channel, and Sundance Channel, to name a few.
Film Independent Los Angeles
Every year Film Independent selects up to ten fiction and five non-fiction feature projects to participate in an intensive film finance market that takes place over four days in November.
GLAADgrants
A well-known advocacy group that drives for societal change in entertainment media for film, television, music, and more to ensure inclusive, diverse, and accurate portrayals of the LGBTQI community. The GLAAD Media Institute offers grants and mentorship to content creators for in-progress works that advance GLAAD’s mission of amplifying diverse voices from the LGBTQI community.
NEH Media Production Grants
Production Grants support film, television, and radio projects for general audiences that encourage active engagement with humanities ideas in creative and appealing ways.
Project Involve
Dedicated to building a more inclusive and equitable industry by supporting emerging filmmakers from underrepresented communities. It pairs participants with mentors at the top of their respective fields and provides hands-on filmmaking experience from pre-production through premiere. It offers fellowships and funding for short films and showcases them at various events.
CrossCurrents Doc Fund
Supporting interactive, short or feature-length doc projects made by filmmakers from, and telling the stories of, underrepresented and marginalized communities from around the world.
Filmmakers Without Borders
Supports independent filmmakers around the world via grants and other funding initiatives. Supported projects include narrative films, documentary films, and new media projects that align with themes of social justice, empowerment, and cultural exchange.
Black Public Media: 360 Incubator + Fund
After participating in the 360 Incubator+ accelerators, projects are invited to participate in our pitching forum, PitchBLACK. Winning teams are awarded up to $150,000 in production funding.
Pinkstart
A global crowdfunding platform designed for the LGBTQI community. Crowdfunding platforms have seen some incredible films through to completion, so it’s great to see one specifically designed for LGBTQI innovators with promising projects.
